Ready-made
A pack of Gentle* cigarettes placed in the smoking room, free for anyone to smoke.

The work evokes engagement, suggesting the differences in senses between individuals and others (sidestream smoke is the main component of secondhand smoke, making it smell unlike the mainstream smoke a smoker inhales), and a constant doubt about the senses: smoking steadily undermines both smell and taste, senses often considered as gestures of defiance against sight in art.

*Taiwan’s oldest cigarette brand that’s still sold today. It was originally named “Long Life” to celebrate the birthday of Chiang Kai-shek (President of Taiwan during the martial law period).
